Partly Cloudy
On Time
During the late evening hours of January 19, snowfall accumulations ranging from approximately 1 to 2 cm were reported across all regions of the GTA. A salt service run is being performed to assess site conditions and help combat the snow that has fallen, as well as address any slippery areas that may arise. Temperatures across most regions remain well below freezing, ranging between –11°C and –13°C. At temperatures below –7°C, standard white salt begins to lose effectiveness, which may impact how quickly surfaces respond following application. Salt is being applied strategically based on conditions and safety requirements.
ROUTE DEPLOYMENT & LOGISTICS UPDATE:
Due to the ongoing salt shortage, all local salt suppliers within the GTA are currently out of material. As a result, all Snow Management teams are required to pick up salt from Paramount’s Toronto Salt Depot before servicing routes. This has resulted in extended travel times and logistical delays, and the salt service run will take longer than normal to complete due to traffic and the need for teams to travel to and from Toronto. At this time, a confirmed completion time is not available.
SERVICE NOTES – SALT SUPPLY UPDATE:
Southern Ontario continues to experience a province-wide salt shortage due to increased winter demand and supply chain disruptions, with municipalities being prioritized. Salt availability for private contractors remains extremely limited. Paramount Snow Management continues to secure materials as they become available and deploys services strategically to prioritize safety. In some cases, service timing and application methods may be adjusted to ensure the most effective and responsible use of available materials.
STATUS:
Salt service deployment underway. Completion timing remains undetermined due to material availability and logistics.
Overnight Service Update
Paramount Snow Management crews were deployed as of 2:00 AM on January 20, 2026 following bands of snow that moved through the GTA overnight. While snowfall accumulation in parking areas was minimal, crews reported ice accumulation forming on site surfaces.
As a result, all properties required a full salt service run to help combat icy conditions and reduce the risk of slippery areas developing.
Temperatures throughout the overnight and morning hours remained well below freezing, ranging between –10°C and –17°C. At temperatures below –7°C, standard white salt begins to lose effectiveness, which may impact how quickly treated surfaces respond. Salt applications were completed strategically based on observed site conditions and safety considerations.
