Major Winter Storm Update
Paramount Snow Management teams have been closely monitoring a large winter storm system that has been in the forecast over the past several days and is now impacting the Greater Toronto Area. As of today, all regions across the GTA are under a Snowstorm Warning.
The storm began around 8:00 AM on January 25, 2026. Reports from our field teams indicated that by approximately 11:00 AM, snowfall accumulations had already reached 5–8 cm in many areas. Forecasts continue to call for significant additional snowfall, with total accumulations expected to range between 20–40 cm, falling fast and heavy as the system progresses.
Snowfall rates are expected to exceed 1 cm per hour, with the most intense period occurring through the afternoon and evening hours.
Due to snowfall reaching the 5 cm service threshold, Snow Management teams are being called in for deployment beginning at 1:00 PM on January 25, 2026.
Service Prioritization & Plan of Attack
To ensure safety and accessibility across all properties, services will be completed in the following priority order:
-
Senior residences, hospitals, and hospices will be serviced first
-
Open businesses will follow
-
Multi-residential properties and condominiums will be serviced next
-
Residential properties will be serviced last
Our operational plan is as follows:
-
A first round of clearing is anticipated to be completed by approximately 10:00 PM on January 25
-
Crews will then begin a second clearing overnight, with completion expected by 7:00 AM on January 26, 2026
-
Following this, teams will proceed through routes a third time to apply salt where conditions and material availability allow
Temperature & Salt Effectiveness
Temperatures throughout this storm are expected to remain well below freezing, ranging between –13°C and –15°C. At these temperatures, traditional white salt becomes significantly less effective, as it requires warmer conditions to activate and melt ice efficiently. As a result, melting may be slower and some surfaces may remain icy despite salt applications.
Additionally, Southern Ontario is currently experiencing a salt supply shortage, which requires careful and responsible use of materials to ensure coverage across all properties while maintaining safety. Paramount Landscaping Inc. is among many contractors across the GTA experiencing limited salt availability. Salt applications will be prioritized and applied strategically based on conditions.
Completion Outlook & Safety Notice
We anticipate that all properties will receive salting between approximately 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM on January 26, 2026, with the final round of service expected to be completed between 3:00 PM and 4:00 PM on January 26, 2026.
Our drivers and shovel crews are working diligently through a large, fast-moving system, and safety remains our top priority. We appreciate your patience and cooperation during this significant weather event.
If you do not need to be out during this storm, we strongly encourage you to remain off the roads, as conditions are expected to be hazardous.
