Site Servicing & Weather Monitoring February 2, 2025

The Paramount Service teams throughout Hamilton, Stoney Creek, and Brantford as of 7:00 PM on January 31, 2025, snow management teams initiated a secondary service run across all regions of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). This decision followed a heavy snowfall event that began around 3:00 PM, with Hamilton and Stoney Creek receiving snowfall amounts ranging from 5 cm to 25 cm in a very short period of time.  The temperature remained around the freezing mark, sitting at 0°C, but was forecasted to drop to -8°C by 3:00 AM on February 1, 2025.  A significant band of snow, continuing through the evening, added to the initial accumulation.  Due to the large volume of snow falling in such a short window, road conditions quickly deteriorated, becoming very hazardous. This made it difficult for our teams to navigate certain areas effectively and at the usual pace. Despite these challenging conditions, teams worked diligently to ensure all areas were serviced.  By 7:00 AM on February 1, 2025, teams completed a full plowing and salting service run across all regions.  Due to the rapid drop in temperatures and the regions remaining icy, regular road salt was replaced with treated salt, which performs more efficiently in these colder temperatures (below -8°C).  All teams have an anticipated completion time of their plow and salt runs by 9:00 AM on February 1, 2025.  As the snowfall exceeded the 5 cm threshold, all residential properties in the GTA were serviced, with teams ensuring the timely application of salt and removal of snow.  Our snow management teams will continue to monitor the weather conditions and the serviced sites throughout the day. Should additional services be required, teams are on standby to address any emerging issues.  All regions of the GTA have been successfully serviced with appropriate snow and ice management measures. The road conditions presented significant challenges due to the heavy and rapid snowfall, but our teams persevered to ensure safety and service completion. The switch to treated salt ensures effective performance under rapidly dropping temperatures. Teams will remain vigilant in case further intervention is necessary.

** UPDATE – As of midnight on February 2nd, 2025 our teams within Hamilton, and Stoney Creek started a salt service run.  This salt run was being performed to help combat any slippery areas as the temperatures remain very cold sitting around -13 overnight and into the morning hours.  Our teams will also be performing any tidy up where required during this run.

The Paramount Service teams throughout Guelph, Kitchener, Waterloo, and Cambridge as of 7:00 PM on January 31, 2025, snow management teams initiated a secondary service run across all regions of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). In Guelph, Kitchener, Waterloo, and Cambridge, snowfall amounts ranged from 1 to 2 cm, with some areas in Cambridge receiving closer to 5 cm.   The temperature hovered around the freezing mark (0°C) but was forecasted to drop drastically, reaching -11°C by 3:00 AM on February 1, 2025.  While the snowfall in Guelph, Kitchener, Waterloo, and Cambridge was lighter, with amounts between 1 and 2 cm, some areas of Cambridge saw closer to 5 cm of snow.  This service run was performed to help combat the snow that had fallen as well to help combat any slippery areas that may arise due to the temperatures below freezing.  By 1:00 AM on February 1, 2025, teams completed tidy up and salting service run across all regions.  Our snow management teams will continue to monitor the weather conditions and the serviced sites throughout the day. Should additional services be required, teams are on standby to address any emerging issues.

** UPDATE – During the overnight hours all teams checked all sites within these regions and no servicing was required.  They will continue to monitor all sites throughout the overnight and early morning hours of February 2, 2025.
