A Few Clouds
On Time
Snow management teams deployed across the GTA beginning in the overnight hours of March 17, 2026, with most regions initiating service at 1:00 AM. Across all regions, snowfall totals ranged from a trace to 2 cm, while Oshawa and Ajax experienced higher accumulations of approximately 5–7 cm.
Due to the snowfall combined with rapidly dropping temperatures, all teams were deployed to perform servicing, including full salt service runs and plowing followed by salting where required, based on site conditions. Temperatures dropped significantly overnight, reaching approximately –10°C by the morning of March 17, increasing the likelihood of freezing conditions from earlier wet snowfall.
All services were performed to help combat the snow that fell and reduce the risk of slippery conditions as temperatures remained well below freezing.

Salt Supply Update — Southern Ontario
Southern Ontario continues to experience a significant salt shortage due to sustained winter demand, repeated weather events, and ongoing supply chain constraints. Municipalities continue to receive priority allocation, limiting availability for private contractors.
Current conditions across salt depots:
-
Inventory levels remain limited and inconsistent
-
Supplies are often depleted without notice
-
Daily allocation limits are being enforced
-
Access to product is increasingly difficult, especially during overnight operations
Salt is becoming increasingly scarce to source and secure, with many suppliers either low on inventory or temporarily out of stock. In many cases, crews are required to travel outside their service regions to obtain material.
Paramount Landscaping continues to work diligently with multiple suppliers across Southern Ontario; however, consistent access to salt cannot be guaranteed.
As a result:
-
Salt applications are being strategically deployed
-
Material is being used responsibly and efficiently
-
Service timing may be impacted depending on product availability
Salt Effectiveness Advisory
At temperatures below approximately –7°C, traditional road salt begins to lose effectiveness and requires:
-
Increased application rates
-
Longer activation time
-
Additional mechanical support (plowing or scraping)
With overnight temperatures reaching –10°C, salt performance is reduced, and ongoing monitoring and follow-up servicing may be required to maintain safe conditions.
Our snow management teams will continue to monitor all sites across the GTA and remain on standby should additional servicing be required.
