On Time

Snow management teams closely monitored the weather system that began around 10:00 PM on February 28, 2026. Across all regions of the GTA, snowfall totals ranged from 1–3 cm.  With temperatures remaining well below freezing, teams were deployed beginning at 1:00 AM on March 1 to perform a full salt service run across all properties. The purpose of this deployment was to help combat the snow that had fallen and reduce the risk of slippery conditions as sub-zero temperatures persisted throughout the early morning hours.  Temperatures during servicing ranged from –5°C to –8°C, with daytime highs forecasted to remain below freezing in most regions before dipping again overnight.

Regional Service Updates

Burlington, Oakville, Milton & Waterdown

  • Start Time: 1:00 AM

  • Accumulation: 1–3 cm

  • Temperatures: –5°C to –6°C, daytime high near –8°C

A full salt service run was completed to help combat the snow that fell and prevent slippery areas from forming.

Completion: 5:00 AM

Temperature & Salt Effectiveness

It is important to note that traditional white road salt begins to lose effectiveness at temperatures below –7°C.

At these temperatures:

  • Melting action slows significantly

  • Salt requires additional time and surface movement to activate

  • Snow and ice may remain visible longer despite application

  • Surfaces can refreeze quickly if temperatures continue to drop

Several regions experienced temperatures at or below this threshold during this service run, meaning melting performance may be slower than during milder weather.

Salt Supply Update — Southern Ontario

Southern Ontario continues to face a significant regional salt shortage driven by sustained winter demand, frequent storm events, and ongoing supply chain constraints. Municipalities continue to receive priority allocation, which has tightened supply access for private contractors throughout the GTA and surrounding regions.

Current supply challenges include:

  • Limited and inconsistent depot inventories

  • Sudden depletion of stock without notice

  • Allocation caps at supplier yards

  • Increasing difficulty securing overnight supply

  • Contractors traveling outside primary service areas to obtain material

Salt is becoming increasingly scarce to secure. Many suppliers are operating with critically low inventory levels, and product availability fluctuates daily. Access to supply cannot be guaranteed at all times.

Paramount Snow Management continues working proactively with multiple suppliers across Southern Ontario to secure material; however, availability remains unpredictable. Salt deployment must therefore be carefully timed and responsibly managed to ensure coverage across all properties while prioritizing safety.

We appreciate your continued understanding as we navigate these ongoing supply challenges.

All teams remain on standby and will continue monitoring conditions should further servicing be required.
