Snow management teams closely monitored this weather system, which began around 10:00 PM on February 24, 2026, with snowfall continuing across most regions of the GTA until approximately 4:00 AM on February 25.  Temperatures remained below freezing, hovering between –4°C and –5°C, before rising to 0°C to +1°C during the daytime hours. Temperatures are forecasted to dip below freezing again overnight.

All teams were deployed at 1:00 AM on February 25 to assess and service properties.

Regional Service Updates

Burlington, Oakville, Milton & Waterdown

Teams began servicing at 1:00 AM.

  • Burlington, Oakville, and Milton received approximately 2–3 cm of snowfall and required a full salt service run.

  • Waterdown received closer to 5 cm, requiring a full plow service followed by a salt service run.

Temperatures hovered near freezing and were expected to remain below it throughout the day. Completion was delayed slightly due to the travel time required to secure salt from a Toronto depot.

Completion: 9:00 AM

Salt Supply Update — Southern Ontario

Southern Ontario continues to experience a significant regional salt shortage due to sustained winter demand, repeated storm systems, and ongoing supply chain constraints. Municipalities continue to receive priority allocation, further limiting product availability for private contractors.

Salt depot inventories across the GTA remain:

  • Limited and inconsistent

  • Frequently depleted without notice

  • Subject to daily allocation limits

  • Increasingly difficult to access overnight

Salt is becoming increasingly scarce to locate and secure. Many suppliers are running low or temporarily out of product, and inventories fluctuate daily. For this event, teams were required to travel to Toronto depots to obtain salt, contributing to extended service timelines.

Paramount Snow Management continues working diligently with multiple suppliers across Southern Ontario to secure material; however, access to consistent inventory is becoming progressively more difficult.

Due to these constraints:

  • Salt deployment must be strategically timed

  • Material must be used responsibly and efficiently

  • Service timing may be impacted depending on availability

We appreciate your continued understanding as we navigate these ongoing supply challenges while prioritizing safety across all properties.
