Rain and Snow Mixed
On Time
Paramount Snow Management teams have been monitoring this weather episode since the early morning hours of February 18, 2026. Rain began across many regions around 7:00 AM, with temperatures initially above freezing. Temperatures began dipping toward the freezing mark around 9:00 AM, increasing the risk of icy conditions as precipitation transitions to freezing rain and ice pellets. All sites have been actively monitored throughout the morning.
Salt Supply & Deployment Strategy
Southern Ontario continues to experience a regional salt shortage, and depot availability remains limited and inconsistent across the GTA. In many cases, we are only able to secure enough material for a single salt application, making timing critical to ensure effectiveness—particularly with conditions shifting to freezing rain. Our goal is to avoid premature application where salt may be washed away by rain and rendered ineffective.
That said, we understand the importance of mitigating risk. As conditions continue to evolve, we have called in all teams and initiated a salt service run across all regions of the GTA. While conditions at many sites are not currently completely unsafe, we are taking proactive steps to address surfaces as effectively as possible within current supply constraints.
Please note: This may be the only salt allocation available today, depending on ongoing depot inventory levels. We appreciate your understanding as we navigate these shortages while remaining focused on safety.
Current Conditions & Regional Forecast
Teams have been called in for a salt service run across the GTA. This service is being performed to help combat the icy conditions we are experiencing. Temperatures are hovering around 0°C to +1°C, with freezing rain and ice pellets forecasted throughout the day before temperatures dip below freezing this evening.
Burlington, Oakville, Milton & Waterdown
Temperatures are currently around +1°C, with freezing rain and ice pellets expected through the afternoon. Conditions are forecasted to taper off around 7:00 PM, with a slight chance of continuing until 9:00 PM, as temperatures drop to 0°C.
Ongoing Salt Shortage Reminder
Southern Ontario remains under a province-wide salt shortage due to increased winter demand and supply chain disruptions, with municipalities being prioritized. Paramount Landscaping Inc., along with many contractors across the GTA, continues to experience limited access to salt supplies.
Salt applications are being deployed strategically, and service timing may be adjusted to ensure the most responsible and effective use of available material.
We will continue to monitor conditions closely and provide updates as this weather system progresses.
