Overcast

On Time

Flurries began across the GTA around 8:00 AM, with snow squalls moving through the regions throughout the day on December 29, 2025.  High wind warnings resulted in blowing snow and rapidly changing site conditions. Temperatures remained below freezing throughout the event, averaging approximately –5°C. Salt service was required to help combat slippery conditions and reduce the risk of ice formation.  Paramount Snow Management teams began deploying routes across the GTA at the scheduled start time of 1:00 PM. Deployment was based on real-time weather monitoring, reported site conditions, and forecasted impacts to ensure proactive service and safe access at all properties.

During this service run, teams experienced delays due to the ongoing salt shortage across Southern Ontario. To ensure properties were serviced, alternative salt suppliers were secured, which extended overall completion times. Despite these challenges, all scheduled routes were completed.  All salt service routes were completed by approximately 10:00 PM on December 29, 2025.  All teams remain on standby should further servicing be required.

Salt Supply Update

Due to an ongoing, province-wide salt shortage impacting Southern Ontario, including the GTA, access to salt supplies remains limited. Increased snowfall this winter and supply chain disruptions at salt mines have resulted in municipalities being prioritized, reducing availability for private contractors.

Paramount Snow Management continues to actively secure salt as it becomes available. During this shortage, salt applications may be prioritized for essential properties such as seniors’ residences, medical buildings, and restaurants before other sites. In some regions, salt pricing has also increased due to supplier costs and transportation factors; these increases are being passed through without markup.

Where applicable, service strategies may be adjusted to prioritize safety, as leaving a thin layer of packed snow can be safer than exposing icy surfaces that cannot be effectively salted. All decisions are made based on real-time conditions and safety considerations.

Our teams will continue to monitor conditions, material availability, and deploy services as effectively as possible.
